An unusual noise may simply be a nuisance. Or it may be the first sign that something is happening.

A party exceeding the permitted noise level, activity on a construction site outside the established working hours, or a loud noise associated with a possible intrusion attempt. Very different situations with one thing in common: sound can become useful information that enables timely action. And that is where the new VESTA-464 comes in.

This sound detector allows you to define the noise level to be considered excessive and how long it must persist before generating an alarm. The result is configurable acoustic detection, capable of adapting to scenarios that go far beyond traditional security. But the most interesting aspect is not only what it detects. It is everything we can do with that information.

VESTA-464: configure the sound level and let the system do the rest

Operation is simple: the VESTA-464 monitors the ambient sound level and compares it with the previously configured parameters. You can select from 8 sensitivity levels: 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95 and 97.5 dB, as well as choose a duration of 100 ms or 2 seconds. An alarm is only generated when both conditions are met simultaneously: sound level and duration.

This allows the detector to be adjusted to the actual requirements of each installation and reduces activations caused by sounds that do not meet the established criteria.

Sensitivity can also be adjusted remotely, making both initial setup and subsequent modifications to the installation easier. The device integrates with alarm control panels and features periodic supervision signals to verify system integrity.

Control noise when guests are present and protect the property when they are not

In a holiday rental, we may encounter two completely different situations. When the property is occupied, the aim is to ensure that guests do not exceed certain noise limits. When it is vacant, the priority changes: we want to know whether an unusual acoustic event occurs that could be related to unauthorised access.

The same sound detector can provide value in both scenarios.

During a stay, the VESTA-464 can be configured to generate an alert when the sound level exceeds the established threshold for the defined period of time. This allows the system to quickly detect excessive noise and take action before a party, loud music or other activity causes problems at the property or in the surrounding area.

Once the booking ends and the guests leave, the function we need from the system changes. At that point, the VESTA-464 can become part of the Intrusion protection, reacting to predefined acoustic levels that may correspond to events such as breaking glass or noises associated with forced entry. Its integration with the alarm system makes it possible to turn that acoustic event into an alert, facilitating a rapid response.

Much more than homes

Thanks to the ability to define a maximum sound level and a specific duration, the detector can adapt to spaces with very different requirements and turn noise into a useful monitoring criterion. This extends its use to businesses, professional facilities and temporary environments where monitoring both excessive noise and unexpected activity is important.

More acoustic control for businesses with constant activity

In spaces where noise is part of daily activity, a specific threshold can be defined to identify when the configured level is exceeded. This makes it possible to incorporate acoustic monitoring into a VESTA security solution and receive an alert when the established conditions are met.

Construction and renovation work: monitor noise even outside permitted working hours

On a construction site, it is not only how much noise is generated that matters. When it occurs is also important. Here, we can go one step further by creating an action rule linked to the permitted working hours. This makes it possible to create scenarios in which acoustic activity detected outside the established working hours generates an alarm, adding a new layer of monitoring to the installation.

We can also use the VESTA-464 thresholds to detect when a specific dB level is exceeded for the configured period of time. In other words, we can control level, duration and, through system rules, when that sound should be considered relevant.

A sound detector designed to integrate into the VESTA system

The VESTA-464 does not operate as a standalone device, but as part of the VESTA ecosystem, expanding the capabilities of an alarm system with a new variable: sound.

Its features include F1 868 MHz wireless communication, power supply via a 5 V/1 A adapter and two backup C-type alkaline batteries, with a stated backup autonomy of up to 30 days. It also features a large manual button for activating an assistance alarm, periodic supervision signals and the option of either wall-mounted or desktop installation.

All this comes in a compact 89 × 99 × 37 mm device, designed for indoor installation and with an operating temperature range of -10 °C to 45 °C. For professionals, this means a new way to expand a VESTA installation while also providing an opportunity to offer services that go beyond conventional intrusion detection.
